Replacing lens on Show Chrome fog lights

Postby gtomei » Tue May 06, 2014 7:22 pm

Has anyone replaced a glass lens on a Show Chrome fog light? I am unable to find anything anywhere on how to do it.
The replacement glass lens package gives no clue and the vendor has no installations instructions on their website.
I'm thinking that perhaps once the broken lens is pried off the new one could be secured in place with silicone but I'm hesitant to try it as I don't know for sure.

I think they are installed on my 02. I did get a blue replacement lens from ChrisChrome.com and found the same elsewhere that were under addressed as show chrome so this may help.

Remove the spring clips (2) and use a heat gun or maybe even a hair dryer to soften the sealant around the inside ridge, the sealant was re-useable in my case (a pale blue). I couldn't get a good grip to pry the broken lens out so smacked it with the screw driver and carefully but easily extracted the lens pieces. Carefully inspect for any chips left in the sealant or the new lens will not seat. Next stick the new lens back to the light housing. Note there is a Top and bottom to the lens, mine had a notch to help align it. once it is stuck heat the new lens (outer edge anyway) to re-soften the sealant and press the lens home. I would suggest using a glove as the first step is removing hot sharp glass and the last is pushing the new but hot lens back in. Don't forget to re-install the retaining clips. I used a heat gun, but you might try a hair dryer in a pinch.

Thanks, Gentlemen:
I did the job this weekend...followed your instructions to the letter.
Went perfectly.
As I don't have a heat gun I used a hair dryer...takes a bit longer but it does soften the adhesive and makes it easy to remove the old lens (or pieces thereof).
Thanks again for your expertise.
