Garmin Zumo 550 on GL1800

Post by 2008retiredplb » Tue May 25, 2010 8:56 am

I just installed a Garmin Zumo 550 on my 2009 GL1800 and am having trouble hearing the voice promts. When I purchased it (over $600) others said it includes everything to connect it to the bike. But now I find out you need another harness or two from Kennedy ($300+)to integrate it into the bike audio system. I have tried to use the aux audio plug in the right pocket, but I have to have the volume on 30 to hear anything. Even then it is hard to hear when riding. I would like to use the built in MP3 player on the zumo for music but don't really care if I have the bluetooth phone function. I would like only to see if someone makes a call, then I can stop and call them back later. Anyone have any Ideas?

I changed to the 550 from the 2610 and had the same problem, make sure you have the volumes turned to full. I used the Kennedy Cable, its only one and it is plug and play, I then need to turn the intercomm volume upto 6+, which then caused noise from the intercomm, so I fitted mic-mutes, so now all is well.

I took the volume problem up with Garmin and was told the output volume on the 550 is lower than the 2610 and nothing could be done about it.

Yhis was my solution, I don't know wether the 660 is better.

if you want to continue to use the aux plug, you could get something like this to make up for the volume issue:

Radioshack sells a similar item, it may be the same but rebranded: ... Id=2732095

the 660 is much better,it comes with the wire harness,i pluged in to the aux,you will need a ground loop isolator to cancel the alt noise
