Brake Light Flasher - Cut a Wire ?

Postby lasvegasal » Sun Jul 20, 2014 9:12 pm

Hello everyone - I recently purchased the "Pulsing Brake Light Flasher" from Goldwing Online for my 2014 GL-1800. The instructions are not very precise, however it appears I must locate and cut the main brake wire and connect this device in line. Does any one know where and which color coded wire exactly must be cut?? Appreciate any advice - -

This may not be much help,but....
Unfortunately I do not have the manual for that bike but I might be able to guide you in the right direction....
This will take a bit of digging on your part....
Remove the seat...You should see near the trunk a few multi-conductor plugs. One of these should have the "main" feed for all the brake lights (I think it on the right side)...This is where you would "cut" the wire and insert the flasher unit....To identify what color code the brake lamp is (without the schematic)...Open the trunk and remove the 10mm nuts holding in the brake lamp housing...The brake lamp may have 2 wires on it...Use your test probe to find which one is the brake lamp...That color coded wire should also be under the seat...
Do not cut the wire at the brake lamp and wire in the flasher there...Put it in under the seat...I think there's a 10mm bolt close by that you can ground the flasher unit to...
By all means, double check before you cut the wire under the seat...Probe it and verify its the brake wire...cut it and verify that all the brake lamps do go out..then hook up the flasher to the 2 wires and ground.

I don't have a manual for a 2014 either - the most recent one I have is 2008, and it shows the brake light wire as green/red. Chances are it will still be the same on the 2014, but double check it with a meter just to be sure.
