Warning Icon

Postby baumedagn » Tue Nov 25, 2014 12:15 pm

The other day went out for a short ride and I got a warning that came up in the bottom left of the display screen. It was in the place that your next turn would be displayed on the GPS. It was NWS! in a box. I can find no mention of this in the owners manual or the service manual. I'm guessing that it's some type of weather alert, but I haven't subscribed to the weather portion of my XM service. When I stopped for fuel, it disappeared but came back within a mile or two. The bike runs fine and tire pressures checked normal before and after the ride. Somebody tell me it's nothing to worry about!

Thanks

Bob

You're exactly right - it's a National Weather System warning, and to get it you need to subscribe to the XM NavTraffic/
NavWeather services. There are multiple pages on the GPS - road conditions, weather conditions, wind, etc. The last (rightmost) screen before returning to "current conditions" is the screen that displays the actual NWS warning:

Sirius XM is running a promo thru Dec 2 (see link below) so for that time period you will be receiving XM radio and Nav Weather on your bike XM radio...

Thanks for the info. I was talking with a couple of guys with our local GWRRA chapter that had the same icon show up. And while everyone agreed it was some kind of weather warning, no one was sure why.

I've owned my wing since February and I've never subscribed to XM music or weather.

Surprise to me, I see the bad weather display in the lower left corner of the GPS main map when there is nasty weather or threatening weather. It showed up for the first time in the spring and continues to display whenever I'm out riding when bad weather is on my route.

I assumed it was a free service that everyone else but me know about...
