Ripping apart my dash

Postby oilboy1162 » Mon Dec 01, 2014 9:07 pm

so, i've read of guys relocating thier sirius/xm antennas from under/behind the dash. just wondering if anyone here has done this, and if so, is there a step=by=step DIY for it. hate breaking into uncharted territory, and breaking something. you guys have been great so far with help. just hate that fading in and out signal up here when i hit the smaller roads, know what i mean!

What would be the reason for relocating the antenna?

Since the antenna is located under all that stuff the signal recieved is weakend. This gets pronounced if your riding on a smaller roural route with trees. Relocating the antenna to the top of the dash open to the air give better signal reception.

Moved mine a couple weeks ago to a dash mounted to the Wind Bender windshield previously installed. The steel dash sat directly above the antenna, and thought they might be blocked.

They were installed on a bracket located in the glareshield. Didn't atke any photos, of the "ripping apart", but will next time. I was thinking that you can reach all the fasteners necessary by removing the windshield. I had replaced the air filter and added some under mirror lights so I had a lot of plastic off.

The antenna connectors are buried under the wire bundles on the right side. Instead of digging through the bundles to locate them I drilled a slot in the glare shield and passed them through. They are now mounted on the dash. I'll try and post some photo's this week.
