Valve Shims Needed Aurora, CO

Postby tomspear » Tue Feb 03, 2015 11:51 am

I am in need of 12 valve shims for my 2001 ABS Wing (not sure yet if I can swap any). All 6 cylinders are out of spec by approx. .001 at 71,400 miles. I have the tension off the left bank and plan to measure the shims for 2,4,6 today. I'm still working on a tool to release the tension on the right side cam (ABS makes access nearly impossible). Can anyone advise about a local source for shims (purchase or exchange). I have not contacted any Goldwing repair shops yet...).

Thanks,
Tom

I thought I should give some closure to this thread.

All my valves needed shims at 72,000 miles (6 exhaust valves measured .006 and 5 intakes measured .004, one .005). I found a source online (Rocky Mountain ATV) and ordered 9 new ones (after removing cams and measuring). I was able to reuse one of the shims and had 2 #208's in a parts box left over from servicing my ST1100 a few years ago. The shims were only $2.00 each plus about 6 or 7 dollars shipping.

The hardest (most time consuming) part of the job was making a tool to release the tensioner on the right cam chain. All valves measured .006 IN and .009 EX when finished. She's all back together now and purring like a happy kitten!
