Intercom Hiss

Postby dpmath » Thu Apr 16, 2015 9:17 am

I have a 2012 GW1800 and recently added a J&M mic system to my wife's helmet. We have a constant hiss in the background that drives her nuts, therefore me too! I returned the headset system to J&M for evaluation but they found nothing. Unfortunately I had told them it was static so they weren't looking for my issue and returned them to me. I've been told there is a filter that could be added so I went to WingStuff and found one but it clearly states "won't work on the 2012!". Now what? Any ideas would be appreciated. :|

Have you tried lowering the intercom volume ? Does it happen all the time? On the early 1800 it only happened when the cruise was set and there is a cure for that.
If you can't find a cure you might try relocating the speakers in the helmet where they are not directly in the ears. On 1 of my helmets I mounted them in the foam lining just above the ears.

The issue you're talking about is because the intercom is always "open" and doesn't mute when people aren't talking. It's a severe failing of all Goldwing intercom systems, and frankly, is inexcusable for a bike with the price of a Goldwing.

The aftermarket solution is something called "Mic Mutes": http://www.mic-mutes.com/
