Alternator question

Postby waituntilthebeep » Thu May 07, 2015 10:03 pm

Have seen lots of Compufire posts for 1500 but have not seen related posts for 1800. Am I blind or do the 1800's not have the same alternator issues? Mine is still nice and newish and has not had a lick of trouble but was pondering the list of what goes wrong with the 1800... and since I have no friggen idea the common issues... got me wondering.

To the best of my knowledge beep, the 1800s don't have any alternator issues. They have tire scalloping issues (add a couple of lbs of air and those seem to go away). They sometimes have transmission issues, and the fix is expensive. Some of them seem to have electronic sound system issues, but only some of them. The 2003/4 models had frame cracking issues. They all have an issue with the rear brake that Honda still does not know how to fix, but has told us about. It may be related to the secondary master cylinder, or it may not. That is their story and they are sticking to it. You cannot use certain 10W40 oils in the 2009 (Amsoil was the oil used), as it causes the sprague clutch to stick on first start in colder temperatures (below 50F for one bike and below 40F for the other, that I know of. This is an issue that only two of us on this forum have complained of, and the solution was to run 10W30 oil. I think that is about it for the GL1800.
It ain't about the destination - it's all about the journey
