Progressive Cartridge Kit Spacer?

Postby Toy3zve » Sun Jul 19, 2015 10:56 am

I'm about to have the cartridge kit and the new rear spring installed in my '07 with 50K miles on it (along with new Elite 3s and the All-Balls steering stem bearings). I noticed in the Progressive instructions that they include spacers for the cartridges, but don't recommend installing them. My question, with me and my SO riding two-up (about 1/3 to 1/2 of my riding), we're about 100# over the max weight rating of the bike. Anyone have experience with adding the spacers to the cartridges. Think I'll need 'em?

Thanks.

Toy3zve!!
No you donot need spacers, 2 months ago I installed a set of mono tubes utilizeing the spacers
made the bike ride very stiff and heavy on front end, removed shims and I could not beleave
the differance it made, my bike handles like a sport bike and bike fills 140 # lighter.
I highly recommed this product, frantasic upgrade to the wing. along with rear spring.

Did you note the estimated weight of me and the wifey combined? Is that your general personal experience also (with the weight factored in).

I called Progressive Suspension and talked to someone on their tech line today and after telling him the weight of myself plus with my wife, he recommended one spacer, per side. Now currently when riding two-up the "worn-out" stock front suspension (with 50K miles) doesn't bottom out or seem to have a problem, only the back. Is it your estimation that with the new Progressive carts in place the ride from the front end softer or firmer?

Thanks...

the mono tubes will give you a firmer ride, sorry I over looked that the total is over by 100#
any way good luck, I am very happy with my progressive upgrade. (mono tubes)

Then if you're saying that with the monotubes installed the ride is firmer than stock, I think I'll skip the spacers.

Has anyone actually measured the sag after installing the monotubes? I've done this on other bikes after replacing springs and it made a world of difference. I am considering the monotubes and rear spring replacement as a winter project.
