Does anybody know how often we should take off and clean out the oil breather and tube ? It looks like you have to take the left valve cover off. Thanks.

I THINK the book calls for 12k miles between checks, and then goes on to say to check more often if you ride in the rain a lot...I've got 65k miles on the clock right now, and I've never seen anything in this tube when I've checked, and I ride rain or shine daily for what it's worth.

I recently checked mine, not sure how long since it was looked at last. It was about half full of fowl smelling liquid.

I blindsme2@q.com !!!!!!!

For your question, I look in my book driver, and he does not say mileage for check the breather, said if you ride when is rain, and hat full Throttle, to check regularly.

I have just the French book !!!!!! Go to Google Translate it is easy to use, it work well for translating.

On page 136 of my 2008 goldwing manual (US version), there is a chart for the maintenance schedule---the fourth item down the chart is labeled "Crankcase Breather", and that is the task you are performing...

My book requests that the breather hose is checked every 4,000 miles....that seems way too often to me, but what do I know. It also mentions the part about checking more often if you are in the rain or run WOT alot...The page flyboy referenced is page 163 in my book, and is identical, except it has the text in english. I highly suspect that flyboy just missed the item in the chart in the maintenance schedule.

So, the real answer is 4k miles, but I'm here to tell you from personal experience that it doesn't need to be checked nearly that often, from someone who often rides both in the rain, and with wide open throttle, though not often at the same time.

I gareva 1 and blackthing !!!!

You're right gareva 1, my book French version for Québec french, on page 110 I have read the same thing as you.

three years I have my GoldWing 1800, I never had a drop of liquid in this hose. I check it at every oil change that I made, never had anything.

Nex time !!!!!!!
