Paranoid In Arizona

Postby russ85228 » Thu Aug 20, 2015 7:10 pm

I was in the greater Phoenix area. The temp was about 110. Anyway, I looked at the temp on the gauge on the dash and it looked higher than normal. The bike usually runs a touch under half way on the gauge and it was a bit higher than that. this is the second time that i've experienced this phenom and want to know if
the heat from the road and sitting in one place is the cause? I have an 06 wing...
I hit the highway and it cooled down after about 5 miles or so.
Anyone have similar experiences and if so should I be paranoid?

That seems pretty much standard operating procedure. Your bike sounds like it is working correctly.

I was born and raised in Phx. when it's 110, it's too hot to ride!
I was in Winslow yesterday and it was only 93 and it was still too hot for riding. IMHO
But my bike does get a little over the halfway mark when sitting idling for long periods, like Grand Ave.
I say, park the bike and jump in the pool or like I used to do jump in an irrigation ditch and cool off.

Was just in Las Vegas where the wing registered 117 degrees in traffic. News reports said it was 113 degrees. Yes the temp gauge went up a hair but nothing to worry about. The only time my 06 started to reach the over heat as on a ride up Pikes Peak. But that was due to the vehicle in front of me doing 15 to 20 mph all the way up. At abut 12000 ft. I had to pull over to let the engine cool down. After a minute I continued up the hill at about 25mph and had no more over head problems.
