Anyone have trouble with the left saddlebag

Postby speedmill » Thu Jul 30, 2009 2:05 pm

I just bought a 2002 Goldwing. Everything works but the latch for the left side compartment does not function. I was able to open it using the port inside the trunk. Has anyone experienced this problem and have a fix?
This my second wing. My first was a 1978 1100 with no fairing or bags. It was a neat bike but of course completely different than the newer ones. When I sold it I bought a Hayabusa for a sportbike experience. It had less vibration than the wing but the riding position and stiff suspension was killing me. I wish it would stop raining, I would go for a ride!

My 2006 is pretty stiff on the left side as well. I found that the lever required a more authoritative tug than the other two, but would work fine given more force.

There are differnt things that could be causing your problem. The most common problem that I see is that the cable (for the opening mechanism) needs adjustment so that it has less freeplay. The cable can snap into 3 (or 4 ?) different postions. try snapping it into the next tighter position. The mechanism is located underneath a cover inside the trunk.

The cams are notorious for bending on these. There are two fixes I know of two fixes. see the following links:

Hi I ride with GWRRA H2 Chapter out of Michigan, Thrre weeks ago one of our Member had the same issue with his bike. We were at a fun run at the Ann Arbor Honda Dealer they had him remove the plug out of the trunk to open it. I will Contact him and find out what he did to fix it, I've also had some trouble with my 2006 left bag opening. Some time's it take two or three pulls to get it open. As sone as I talk to Gary I will let you know. Ken in Michigan
