Radio

Postby Dave07nt » Thu Sep 24, 2015 5:12 pm

I have a 2009 1800 that when I put the bike in gear and let out the clutch the audio stops from the radio. The radio is still on but I loose the sound. It's like putting the bike in reverse the music stops. Does anyone have any ideas? I checked the kick stand switch, and the radio ground.

When you have weird problems like this, where seemingly unrelated systems affect one another, it's almost always a bad ground issue.

In this case, it sounds like your radio/amplifier has a bad ground, and when you squeeze your clutch lever, it is using that for a ground. When you let go of it, it loses the ground and stops working.

if you don't find a ground connector loose or very dirty or perhaps a weak battery then you might try contacting Larry at: http://www.wingconnect.com/Garage.html

He is very knowledgeable about these radios.

This problem is not really a radio issue As much as it is a mute issue looking for a ground. The radio stays on the whole time the sound just stops when the ground is not there.

I've read this exact issue on several forums and it was always a missing ground connection in the end, but some also pointed to the side stand switch issue after a trike conversion. One I believe was left pod MUTE switch ground finding its way through the clutch switch and/or activated neutral position switch. The end of one thread I assumed was repaired and dropped was a fried reverse diode (so I'd check and see if reverse works while you're at it). A trike wing had a loose or disconnected ancillary ground circuit. Also there is another thread here that may be your solution http://goldwingdocs.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=22518
