What is the message. You are supposed to be stopped and out of gear in order to make the changes. Manual also recommends that you have the bike on the centerstand.

yes I am stopped and in neutral, but when I push the pressure up or down button I get a error notice. this trike has a 2015 roadsmith conversion kit, does this make a difference?

I would think the roadsmith trike kit has its own suspension, and so your preload no longer works, and in fact may not even be installed any longer. That would be the error.
It ain't about the destination - it's all about the journey

Roadsmith offers different options for the preload. You need to find out which option you have. On my 2009 the preload works just like a stock Goldwing. Roadsmith might be able to tell you which setup you have if you call them and give them your serial number. You could ask on Triketalk.com forums where Roadsmith has a thread which they check and answer regularly or there are probably other members that might be able to help.
