Kuryakyn Trunk trip LEDs

Postby KenWiggers » Sun Nov 01, 2015 9:17 am

Two sections of the Kuryakyn trunk trim LEDs on my '06 GL1800 have failed. I've browsed LED vendors and don't find a match. I'm checking with Kuryakyn to see if they sell replacement LEDs without buying the whole trim piece. Does anyone know of a vendor who might sell replacements that fit?

Are they individual LEDs or a LED strip. Picture??

Thanks for asking. Each side strip has 3 sections, and each section has 8 LEDs about 3/16" apart. Each section is connected to the next with soldered wires, so it's not really a strip. The individual sections (small board that holds the LEDs) are glued on the back into the red lens but appear to be removable. The side strip which I pulled to check if it was a continuous strip is plugged into the rear trim strip. Two failed sections are one in each of the side trim strips.

Sounds like all you need to do is purchase individual component LEDs of the correct size 3mm or 5 mm (most likely 5mm). If this is behind a red lens, be sure to use red LEDs. They can be purchased at Radio Shack or at superbrightleds.com

Replacement LED's can most likely be found at SuperBrightLEDS.com. Here is one of their pages with flexible top emitting led strips. They can be cut in various lengths and used to replace what you already have in your molding and will most likely be brighter and longer lasting. https://www.superbrightleds.com/cat/top-emitting/

There are many other options as well. If you are a do-it-yourself individual, you are limited only by your own imagination. Do a search for LED strip lights in your favorite search engine.

Thanks Mike. I have been finding strips and individual bulbs. A strip would probably work but I doubt it will match the sections that are still good since the 8 little LEDs in each section are tightly placed on a small board that doesn't eve show solder connections on the back side. I'm checking salvage sites to see if I can find some from which to scavange the individual. No big rush but I'm putting it up for sale soon and want it looking right. I needed to down size and have an NT700A for local trips
