Electrical Question for Turn Signals & Brake lights

Postby wingpilot08 » Sun Nov 01, 2015 1:43 pm

Looking for some quick info...sure I could find it if I had the shop manual. I am in the process of building a processor controlled RGB LED lights to replace some other LED add-ons that were failing. What I am looking for or need is when the turn signals or brakes are applied, a signal is sent to a relay that then accuates the relay to have the turn signals/ brake lights to go active. What I need is the following:

1. Is the signal that is applied to the relay input a positive (+12) or a ground?
2. Same for the brake lights.
3. What/where are the relays involved? (relay # etc).

My intent is to have the same set of LED's to be running lights RED (normal), brake lights RED (flashing when applied) and left & right turn signals AMBER (flashing when applied).

I will be posting the entire set up once it is completed and working....Thanks in advance!

Here is a test video of the LED's in action just running on 2 AAA Batteries.....

Still needs a bit of work, but the basics are there!

Quick update on the lights...installed one on the bike while still connected to the breadboard...just to see it on the bike...so far I like it...but I might want to get a diffusing lens for them....here are a couple pics and a video:

WingAdmin...need your help again...if you don't mind..or anyone else for that matter.

With the RGB-LED project I'm working on, I need to locate (physically!) on the Wing where the Turn Signal relay that is connected to the Turn Signal Switch. Looking at the schematics that were posted (a bit grainy and hard to read), it looks like the TS Switch Connects to TS Relay/Conversion Meter (photo15/17)..it looks like it may be a gray wire that I need to connect to. I cannot connect to the TS lights directly as the flasher will mess with my programming. Any help would be appreciated...I have the light programming and everything ready to install...just need to have the points to connect to!!

It's been a challange..but I'm working thru it...once completed I will post what it looks like. Because of the limits of the controller board, I had to add a couple DC-DC converts to drop the voltage for +12v to +5 or 6v. Thanks for the kind words!

I see you have a pearl white 99...mine was a 96-SE pearl white..really liked the white wings...there is a lot you can do to the 1500 for LED lights. Lots of good info on this site.

So on Thanksgiving..we didn't have the traditional Thanksgiving feast...in fact no feast at all...we are doing ours today (Black Friday)..So I used the day to finish up the wiring of my RGB-LED clusters. As yo can see from the video, the turn signals came out a bit wonky, so they are now disconnected (also the color just wasn't right!) but the running lights and brake lights are acceptable...

On to other projects...
