Front tire on a GL1800 champion trike

Postby cruiser1800 » Mon Nov 09, 2015 3:56 pm

I bought a 06 GL1800 trike, the front tire needs replaced this winter. It now has a bridgestone BT 45r on it. I have no idea how many miles is on it. I have a VTX1800 that I run Elite 3's on with good luck. Not wearing out a front tire on a trike, I don't know which would be the best tire to buy. Feed back on suggested tires would be appreciated

Thanks

Ive had both the MPA and the BT45 on the front of my trike and theyre both good tires. A lot of trikers like them for their great price and mileage they give for the money. But theres a new tire out there now. Avon entered the trike market with their trike specific front tire. The numbers for mileage really havent come in yet from what Ive read on the web. Mine was mounted a few months ago and I can happily say it rides better and handles better than the other brands of tires. Even if it doesnt get the mileage of the MPA or BT45 I would still replace it with the same just because of rideability and handling.

I've been reading up on the Avon trike tire and the AV71 and the Am71 are talked about. Both are supposed to be front trike tires and of my size. But so far I have not found anything telling me what the difference is between them. The AV71 is the one mentioned the most, does anyone know what is different about them.

Congratulations on the new trike! I use Goldwing docs religiously for my 1200, 1500 and now my 1800 trike any thing I need to know for my wing is here! But for information I need for my Lehman trike part, I use "Trike Talk Forums", Everything for all trikes, every style is there. Good luck!
Those that say "Old means SLOW" have NEVER ridden a V65 Magna!

The Avon Am71 is a trike specific front tire. Avon designed this tire basically for trikes and not 2 wheelers. The Av71 is the Cobra street tire made for motorcycles for everything from HD to Honda. It will fit a trike because it comes in the Goldwings front tire size. Handling wise its a whole world of difference. With a trike we dont lean like a bike and most of our tire wear is the center 3/5ths of the tread. Avon designed this tire with all of the issues a trike has as compared to a 2 wheeler. It costs a little more than an MPA or BT45 but for what you spend to trike your bike the Avon is worth it for the ride and handling it gives.
