Heated grips and seats on 2012 Trike

Postby The Wolf » Tue Nov 24, 2015 12:31 pm

I'm trying to troubleshoot the lost of heated grips and seats on a CSC 2012 gold wing, and have read the great posts here but I can't find the heated control unit on this Trike. It was posted it was behind the left saddlebag but with a Trike , I can't see it behind the battery on left side. I haven't removed the shelter yet but if someone can tel me where to look and tell me where the grips are plugged into that would help.. I'm thinking I need to look around the ECM etc for the connections to grips and maybe the heated control unit. I don't have the manual either but can get one in next day or so. Thanks for any help..

1st
Do you have the airbag model? Different location than other models as to grip connectors.
2nd
Most problems like this can be the left grip was damaged by lifting the grip which broke the circuit board type grip heater. You would have to test the continuity.
3rd
Is the seat connector plugged in? Unplugged and neither will work.
4th
Neither will work above 65°.

Ok no air bag-
Seat connector is plugged in and I checked the connector on the seat, measured the resistance of both heaters in the seat and both ok..-
Trying to find connectors for grips to measure them , plus trying to find the heater control unit to measure voltages and resistance from there.
I did check out the fuses and the relay for heaters those are good.

Not sure if the heater control unit could have been moved very far from its original location.
Thanks for any help

The connector is below the right glove box in the fairing.

Well I finally found the heated grip connector.. It was next to the air filter box, you can see it from the front but can't reach it very well, I had to remove the air filter box( a real pain to reconnect the four hoses from bottom).. Next time it will be just cut the grip wires to check resistance then resplice the wires. Also found the heater control box, had to remove battery and battery box. The control is hanging under the starter relay etc behind the battery.. Ordered a new control unit and will see if this fixes the problem..

What was the problem anyway. I think they are wired so that they won't kick on (seat espically) when it is above a certain temp. outside.

That's the seat, grips should heat at any temp

The problem was that neither the seat or the grips were heating. If a grip opens up then nothing works, and I think the seat won't heat unless the temp is below 60-65. So after checking as much as I could I ordered a new control unit for the heated seat/grips. Haven't got it yet but hopefully that will fix it.
