CF Card Reader

Postby huggiebear » Sat Jan 23, 2016 3:27 pm

Hi!
I've purchased 2015 map update for my 2010 GL1800, when I pushed the card into the reader a message pop up saying: ( data card error) I put the old one back in and got the same message, I took the reader from the trunk and found few pins were bend, tried to straightened but it broke off. “these are the pins where the CF card plugs in”
The reason they bend because there is a piece of metal which eject the card when the tab is pushed moved right on top of the pins.

My question is, anyone know where I can get a used one or if can it be repaired, I looked on eBay but only the case is available. I hate to spent 300 $ + exchange, I’m in Palmetto still , hope I can find something before I go back to Canada.
The year of the bike is a 2010.

Thanks in Advance

Someone posted this as being the CF connector used in the GPS:

http://www.mouser.com/Search/ProductDet ... 2453-022LF

However, replacing it would not be easy - it is surface mounted, and doing surface mount rework is tough, time consuming and expensive. If you have experience doing it, you could probably get by doing it yourself, otherwise people generally talk to Garmin to get them fixed.

Thanks Wingman!
I've order 2 connctors just in case I screwup, like you've said it's not an easy task but worth trying.
Do You know if anyone had it repaired from Garmin or a third party?
The cost for a new one is 317$ with or without XM, why the price is the same its behind me.
Once again thanks for the information.

You might try contacting Sierra Electronics. http://www.sierra-mc.com/ They do Goldwing CB repairs. They may be able to help.

I'm confused. You say you have a 2010 nav that uses a CF card. But 2010 nav uses a SD card. Am I wrong ? Please help me out here.

I'm not sure if all or some of the gl1800 for the Canadian market has the CF card, what I know mine does and yes it is a 2010 airbag model which sucks paying so much money and getting a crapy GPS and we're stuck with it nothing we can do to make it better. The update come on 2 CF card one for USA and one for Canada I assume I have to swap card every time I cross the boarder but not sure I'll know once I fix the problem and do the update unles someone can shine some light on the 2 cards.
THANKS MOTHER HONDA FOR THIS SCREW UP, I guess Honda doesn't give a big F... About Canadians.
If some of you thinks I'm pissid you're right there some many thing Honda could have done to the GPS and being safe, why if I stop for gas and forgot to press the enter key twice I have to stop on the side of the road to activate the GPS when it was give me direction before I stop, on intelligent programmer would have programmed to come back on and start from where lefts off.
Sorry guys I know this is another topic but its redicul that these engineers could do something so simple and turn it into a nightmare, I say that because I done programs for industrial machines for many years.
Anyway talking is not fix the problem so I shut up.
Thanks guys.
