Right Pocket Won't Open

Postby seabeechief » Sat Mar 12, 2016 2:18 pm

HELP! I can't get the right pocket to open. The key lock operates but the pocket will not open. I took the panel holding the lock off, and I can move the mechanism, but it will not open the pocket. I don't know what to do next. I have pushed, pulled and pried (gently), but nothing seems to work. I need new ideas as to how to get in it.

I have Fred Harmon's DVD's, but I can't find help for this problem in them. All reasonable suggestions will be appreciated.

Thanks,

Chief

Thanks Aspy, but that's not the problem. The knob turns, the cable pulls and springs back. The locking mechanism is not releasing. I have tried unlocking it with a wire, but I can't see the mechanism behind the pocket, so I don't know exactly where to push/pull what. Thanks.

Here is what the unit looks like.

Found this page on CB mounting but it has some info on right pocket about half way down. That is where the pic came from.

Quote from the page.
Tip; When reassembling, don't forget to put the cable back or you won't be able to open the pocket. If you do lock it with the cable disconnected by mistake, you don't need to remove the top shelter again. Just remove the trim piece and the lockable panel and then work your paw up to the white lock clip shown in the picture, then just pull down on the part that the cable sits into.

I had that problem before too and I lifted the lock side up just enough to get a very small flat blade screw driver in to activate the lock mechanism. As mentioned above, if cable not postionefd right it won't function the right way. I have seen replacement cables but can't remember where. Getting older syndrome I guess

And we have a BINGO! I was wrong....the little button thingy did come out. My lovely bride naviga/trix got it unlatched and open. I put the button back in and it all works splendidly.

Thanks for all the help y'all provided. These forums are one of the great positive things about the internet. Thanks, guys!
