Fuel filter

Post by bond » Thu Jun 16, 2016 6:26 am

I have a 2003 GL1800. My bike has been running great. When I went to work yesterday morning, it ran great. When I got on it to come home, it would bog down or quit every time I gave it gas. It was almost empty, so I filled it up thinking it just needed gas. However it continued to do the same thing even with a full tank of gas. Could this be a fuel filter?? I didn't think there was a fuel filter on an 2003? When I did mantnance back in April, I put in a new air filter. Any suggestions????

My first suspect is the fuel filter. There is also a small possibility that it is spark plugs. I have seen plugs fail under heavy load or high rpm but run fine at lower loads/rpms.
I am not familiar with the 1800, but there has to be a fuel filter. The 1500 is located under the cowl near the air filter on the right (throttle grip) side.

The fuel filter is attached to the fuel pump in the tank and normally does not need replacement.
It could possibly be the plugs.

No filter on the 1800, there is a screen on the fuel pump.

I believe it is called a strainer attached to the fuel pump inlet

Was it hard to start, or only boggs down when accelerating?
