ECM replacement compatibility

Postby singring » Sun Jul 10, 2016 11:04 am

My heating system on my 2006 GL1800, with comfort package, is acting up again. Used Honda's diagnostic and I followed through to the very last option to repair the system. The pink wire from the ECM to the Heat Control Unit is not providing any voltage from the ECM. So I have to replace the ECM. The ECM part number on my bike is 38770-MCA-A72 but I can get my hands on an ECM with part number 38770-MCA-A81, which is the for a 2006 GL1800 with an airbag system. My question: Would this be a compatible replacement for my bike inorder to get my heat system functional again??

Re: ECM replacement compatibility

Actually, I was getting a tiny amount of .14 volts off the pink wire when the grip and seat heating switches were turned on , which was probably not enough to activate the heat control unit. My buddy has a 2006 GL1800 with a functioning heating system. I checked the voltage of his bike's pink wire and got .4 volts with heating switches off. When his bike's heating switches were on I initially got 1.9 volts, then voltage slowly decreased, and stabilized at .6 volts. We also switched over his heat control unit to my bike, and my heat system is still failing. So my bike's heat control unit is not receiving enough voltage from the ECM through the pink wire to be activated. The replacement ECM that I am considering is from a salvaged 2008 GL1800 with the comfort package and airbag. Any thoughts on compatibility??
