Fog light switch

Postby captdecker » Tue Sep 20, 2016 10:34 pm

06 GL1800 I got an EC LED fog light kit that came with a switch. I use them as daytime running lights, so on all the time. The switch is lit all the time, making it hard to tell if lights are on or not. Is there a switch that is lit only when the lights are on? Making it easy to tell if on, not having to look down to see if switch is in or out, not a wise move.

If the switch has 3 lugs, one of those is for the light ground. The other two are for input and output to your lights. If you have the input and output reversed, which could cause the light be on all the time.
Just a thought since you didn't describe the switch.

One other thing you could do is to tap off the power to the lights and add an LED as an indicator somewhere that you can see it.
If you add a single LED you will have to also add an inline resistor to drop the 12 volts to 3 volts.
A 300 to 330 ohm resistor should work.
Or you could just order these: They are 12 volt. https://www.amazon.com/Weksi-Indicator- ... +indicator

Here is a plug & play setup I installed. It is perfect. I mounted the LED indicator just below left speaker in space there. Between speaker and cubby. It comes with 2 lenses. This offers you 2 install choices. One is a flush mount of the indicator, the other is 1/4" tall indicator. I chose flush so that when I wash bike I don't keep hitting it. I have two mounted as I have a second set of driving lights also mounted and used the an additional set up for them.

I fallowed the link you posted , I see I not the only one that would like to know when the FOGS are on...think this will work.
