Un-even tire wear

Postby bbutlers » Sun Sep 05, 2010 10:15 pm

I have a 2003 Honda GL 1800 that is wearing tires very unevenly. I have fairly good tread on the right side of the tire and it is almost bald on the left. If I put the bike on the center stand and spin the front tire I can hear grind like a bad bearing. (I am more of a car guy and if I heard this sound on a car I would replace the bearing.) Will a bearing cause uneven tire wear? If so is there any special trick on removing the front tire and replacing the bearings?

Thanks in advance!

I bbutlers

Take off your front wheel and go check the two bearings on the side that your tire is user, you'll have the answer, and check the cage of the bearings and the axle bearings if not made a premature rubbing, you probably have one or two bearings seized.

With the explanations you give, I'll check what you said.

Gives us news that you will find

If you go to the how to page (on the top of this page) there is an article that covers that very thing.
Hope it helps you.

Left side tire wear was a big discussion on another board.
Two theories were prevalent:
1. Crown in the road
2. Left turns cover more distance - therefore more tire wear.
Still a mystery to me!
