2014 gl1800 remote trunk release not working

Post by retiredrider52 » Tue Aug 15, 2017 7:55 pm

When I press the trunk release button on the remote, I can hear the release mechanism working but the trunk lid doesn't open. The remote lock and unlock features still work. I can manually open the trunk lid without any problem. Is there an adjustment on the mechanism? Any information will be greatly appreciated. Thanks

It's a 14 so it is probably still under warranty, if you do not get an answer here take it back to the dealer.

Did you hit the button twice?

No need to hit the button twice. My 2012 has the same system. I did notice that I had to hold the button for a couple seconds though.
You could try some silicone spray on the rubber gasket. It may be sticking a little.
Also try some spray on the lock mechanism. Spray through the holes where the latches are.
If it's still under warranty, let the dealer take care of it.

How full is the trunk? If there is something inside that is putting pressure on the locking mechanism it will not open. Try pressing down on the trunk while to press the button, if it opens then there is pressure on the latch.

Just my 2cents - I have a 05 1800 with a rather heavy luggage rack on top of the trunk. When I press the unlock button I can hear the switch working but the trunk won't budge due to the weight. I have to open it the old fashion way - pull the handle and raise the lid. It will lock fine and that's good for security stuff.

Speaking of the trunks. My 05 is showing on the dash where speed odometer reads showing open. Is there a switch that needs cleaning or readjusting?

Yes. The loops on the lid that go into the latch are out of shape or missing a/or a loose screw. The screw holes(plastic) sometimes get broken, usually overstuffing the trunk/bags and forcing the lids closed. If the loop is bent or worn, replace them.

Man that fixed my truck lid. There was a screw missing. I looked without my glasses. then checked with glasses and light. That is what the problem. Driver not taking the time to get light to see. It is working great!! Thank you newday777! and I took my brake switch off cleaned it. It is working, now back to riding.

** I also have my foot brake working to a point. The spring seems a little weak and not lifting the arm off the contacts. They were also dirty but not sure if I put it back on. Anyone taken or adjusted rear brake light?

Doubtful that the spring is weak. May have some dirt on the pedal shaft. Remove the pedal (pull bolt all the way out) and spray some cleaner and lube on the shaft.
Be careful, the shaft will want to move to the inside, hold it with your finger on the inside.
As far as adjusting the switches, there are two screws on a metal bracket that slides against the switches. You can loosen the screws and slide the bracket up and down to adjust the trigger point. Two switches, one for cruise cancel and one for brake lights. Adjust the bracket so the first switch activates when you apply a little force tot he pedal. The second switch is for the brake lights.
If you had the secondary master cylinder recall done, it may have not been adjusted correctly by the technician.
