And then are you opening the lever that opens the trunk? The key itself will not unlock the trunk, it just allows the lever to do it.

Yes I turn key and pull the center handle to my 2003 1800. It's like no linkage

not sure how the 1800 differs from the 1500 but there are some plastic parts that also are involved, little clasps that can break. Do the sides open?

If under warranty or extended warranty, take to dealer and let them solve it.

First thing I would do look for some youtube videos that perhaps describe how to open the trunk. If there is nothing in the tech section here, I would check at GLRiders.com as someone there may have a solution.

If no luck with that, I would call a locksmith before I drilled it out.

Just curious, do the handles unlock the side bags. There is some technique if you can get into the left bag to unlock the top trunk but I honestly do not know how.

Just a dumb thought that I guess you have tried, have you tried to unlock it with the remote?

Thanks everyone and my 2003 does not have a key fob to open trunk just a key. I have turned it left and right. It appears a nut comes loose on linkage. A friend to slim Jim it later. Thanks all.

Please tell us what you found when you opened it. That may help someone else the next time.

All 1800's came with a FOB, if you bought used the previous owner did not ive it to you, or if you bought it new the dealer didn't give it to you. You can get one on e-bay

Hmmmm,

I really don't think so sir, as not all 1800s have the option to open the trunk by remote, mine for sure does not. The harness has a plug to connect the control module, but there is nothing there.... and I have a Remote that was given to me and when trying to "pair it up", nothing happens, that resulted in a search for the control module, which is not there, and apparently never has been.

If you are the original owner, it sounds like you were shorted a piece of OEM equipment.

I have an 02 and there is no hardware to remotely unlock its trunk. Anyway try pushing up on the release paddles beneath the trunk then turn the key left and right again. Mine has a broken spring in the mechanism and its too much of a pain to strip out the trunk and replace it, it will allow the center paddle to droop and the key will not unlock the trunk or saddle bags. You might be able to spray the mechanism out with CRC once its open, I did find a lot of collected grime in mine that bound up the latching springs and switches.

Just thinking about this trunk not opening. Is there any resistance when you pull the trunk lever? Is it possible that the rod clip has come loose or broken, thus it will not work? Does locking it keep the lever from moving? Got to be something real simple. ;)

There was a recall to replace the lock mechanism on the early production GL1800`s. Get an old style metal coat hanger and cut it down to about a foot. On the end make a L shape. The length of the L has to be short so you can fit it through the small hole that is right under the lock. Now you are going fishing to get the L on top of the bar that you can pull down on and unlock the trunk. When you put the wire through the hole have the L facing toward you. Stay with it it`s a little tricking at first. Now you can take the cover off to see what`s not working on the lock. Even after the lock was replaced I still carried that tool with me just in case. I don't know anyone except you now, that did not get a FOB when they purchased a new 1800 wing. A friend bought one of the first 1800;s in 01, and then an 07, I bought an 02 and another 08,. several friends have 1800 wings, 03, 06, 05, and a bunch more and they all received a FOB. When a used wing is purchased sometimes the seller forgets to or just doesn't give the FOB to the new owner.
