Has anyone had experience with running Shinko tires on a GL1800. If so, please respond here and tell me what you liked, did not like, and handling and mileage characteristics that you experienced, in your opinion. Please do not respond with information on all the other tires out there, as I want to keep this short and concise. I know about the others, I want to know about Shinko for a big touring bike.

One of my riding partners had a set of Shinko tires on his 2002 GL1800.
They failed in a similar manner to the Metzler tires talked about here: viewtopic.php?f=10&t=37981

Needless to say, it keeps the rest of us away from them.

Shinko tires on lighter bikes do okay,

on the 1800, they are not up to the needs of a bike that goes over 1,000 lbs loaded with riders and luggage.

the new Dunlop E4s are getting good reviews, and if you choose to do so, as I did, I used a "gasp!" car tire on the rear. They are actually properly referred to as PVT, Personal Vehicle Tire....

Mine is a Michelin Primacy Alpin PA3 195/55/16 RF ZP all terrain and it ended the hydroplaning problems that I was having every time I added power, in any gear, the rear E3 went sideways and off the road. Never more, as the raven quotes... the PVT stopped that foolishness.

My buddy ran a set of Shinkos.
After 5500 miles and several slippery moments he changed them out..
I have never seen him happier.

Other choices -
Dunlop E4's
Avon Cobra
Bridgestone for the GL1800

All better tires proven by many riders over many miles.

I had a Shinko on the back of my 83 Venture Royal and got lots of miles and performance out of it. I put a Shinko on my Gl 1800 late last summer and so far it has been great, smooth ride and nice cornering. Time will tell
