GPS firmware V2.7 and V4.6

Post by richiewinn » Thu Mar 01, 2018 2:29 pm

I bought a 2009 Goldwing with GPS and have subsequently read just about every forum posting (here and other forums) on updating both the maps and the firmware. I have also contacted Garmin and Honda without success. What I have achieved so far is to update the maps from OpenStreetMap and this appears to have worked well so at least we know where we are now!

What I am struggling with is the firmware. My 'Wing in in New Zealand and currently has V2 (the original) firmware. I know there is a $95 upgrade but I can't find out what you get for your money other than the maps are four years old and following the upgrade I still won't be able to prepare maps on my computer and copy them over to my CF card. Does anyone know if V4.6 of the firmware will work with my bike? Can anyone enlightem me as to what an NT map is please? Is there any way I can prepare routes using my computer and upload to my CF card please?

Many thanks in advance.

You are going to receive other post on this but are you sure you have FW 2.? and a CF card ?
Being as you are in NZ your system maybe totally different from the US or Canadian versions.
Here in the US 2009 GLs have a SD card and FW V2.9 latest. In Canada the 2009s have a CF card and
FW 4.9 latest.
So if you have FW 2.? and a CF card I don't know what to tell you.
Can you download and share routes created on your computer ?
Or do you have to create the routes on the bike ?

Yes absolutely positive it's V2 of the firmware and yes absolutely positive it's a CF card. The original card has the following printed on it:-

39250-MCA-V10
256 MB CF Card
City Navigator
New Zealand v2008
011-01985-00

Yes my system may be totally different from US and Canadian versions I agree. My question is will V4.9 work on my Goldwing GPS? With my current V2 firmware I can only enter routes on the bike. I wonder is it possible to create routes and share with V4.9?

Sorry to say FW V4.9 will not help you with the routing. I would be very careful with the FW update you install you could brick the nav unit.
You might want to check on some of the European boards they may be of more help.

Thanks for the information - much appreciated. Is there no way of creating routes with a computer and uploading to the CF card. Such a pain entering into the system on the bike.

Simple answer No. Not that I know of with a CF based system.

I agree with jinx on this. There is no way to make routes and transfer them to a CF carded NAVI unit. The unit itself will not accept it. As far as the firmware? The reason we cannot help is that we do not know what was loaded in the bikes that went to Europe, or to Australia/New Zealand or any other place south of the equator, nor what it takes for them to work there. Perhaps it is no different from here, and in this case, yes V4.9 should work, but we just do not know if the south of equator makes a difference. My thought is that yes you could use V4.9, but it will not increase the capabilities of the unit. This marginal capability did not come out until 2012 with the SC carded units after manufacture returned to Japan, to the best of my understanding.
It ain't about the destination - it's all about the journey

In the States 2009 was the first year that routes could be loaded and shared.
