Post by RBGERSON » Sun Apr 15, 2018 4:44 pm

I currently own a 1500 and have had all the Gl's 75-83 and 95-98. Do all my own work.

So on the 1800's specifically 2007, 115,000 miles.. anything to watch for..check.. I haven't a glue.

HAD LOTS OF GOLDWING 75-83
NOW INTO 1500'S..RIDING A 1998 SE

FAIR WINDS,

when I bought my '02 which had 97,500ish miles on it, I just made sure that it was running smoothly, that all the functions were working, rode it around the dealer's lot to test the transmission and the steering, it all checked out.

if it has a CB, open the squelch wide open and see if it makes the typical roaring noise.
this requires that the CB button be pushed in and the 'CB' indicator shows up on the LCD panel.
Verified that the FM/AM radio were working... didn't have a comm set in my helmet so did not test the Intercom function to see if I could hear myself in the headset.

I ran thru all the push buttons, and all was well....

then I took it home.

It would be nice is you can obtain any prior documentation on maintenance of course.
In my case, I lucked out and had the PO's title in my hands, wrote him a letter and he sent me a full set of documentation on all of his PMs.. he turned out to be quite anal about such, I was very pleased.

Check if the brake recalls have been performed. If not, you can still take it into a dealership and have them done. If an Airbag model, there is a recall for that also. As AZgl1800 already mentioned, give it a ride and check transmission operation. Other than that, GL1800 bikes are as bulletproof as all the other Goldwings. Work good, last long time.
It ain't about the destination - it's all about the journey

Oh, on the FM/AM radio and also the CB

A short press will activate the function. A loooong press will turn it off.
a quick toggle press will flip flop it from Headphones to Dash Speakers....

and the AVC function on mine actually works.

Some 07s also had transmission issues with the ghost shifting issue. If you can get a test ride get the bike out and just see what its like shifting from 4th to 5th and see what its like when you open it up in 5th. This issue didnt affect a lot of the bikes but you dont want to get stuck with an expensive trans fix.

Usually there is a short grace period you can return the bike like 60 days maybe so if you notice ghost shifting issues you can bring it back. Earlier 1800s had the frame recall. I think they made ABS versions all the way back to 2001 and I think Nav was introduced in 2007ish.
