Help, I ,for the first time changed the air filter out my 2001 1800, everything went back together ok but now the front wheel lock wont engage. The front wheel seems to turn all the way each way but the key wont push down to lock it in place. Not sure how the systems works.

Like all bike locking systems it is a simple 'pin and hole' mechanism . Changing your filter should not affect the front locking system unless you have somehow 'trapped' something in the recieving hole. You may have invertantly pulled a wire across the hole without realizing it. The only other thought is that you are over or undershooting the hole. Try moving the bars slowing in the rough area needed as you turn the key to put the lock on.

well the key wont even turn to the locking position, so the key doesn't push down to release the pin.dont know if maybe the key mechanism has a problem or if there is room to get something caught under it.

The key won't turn to the locking position if the handlebars aren't in the correct position for them to lock. Like Bouvier1 described, I will normally push the key toward the locking position while slowly rotating the handlebars to the left. When the handlebars hit the right "spot", the key will rotate to the "Lock" position, and the handlebars will then be locked.
