Best sound through speakers

Postby datorexpert » Sat Jan 01, 2011 4:08 pm

Hi!
I really would like to have tips how to get great sound.
Is it good enough to connect the mobile as a MP3 player?
Should I get a MP3 from BikeMP3, version 3 and new speakers? If yes, which speakers give the best possible sound without rebuild the bike?
Do I need to buy an amplifier and a subwoofer? If yes, which one?
I want to maintain the space when packing for long journeys.
It´s a European 1800A -05 I have and I´m very pleased with the bike!

I used a standard MP3 player on my wing and it sounds great.
I store it in the glove box, they do sell one that installs in the trunk for about 100 +

For the moment I also use a cell phone with internal MP3 player but I´m little disappointed of the sound, specially from the speakers though I have replaced the original speakers with 120 watts from J&R Motorcycle Audio, RSPK-GL18.
I really would like to get better speakers with better base and clearer sound!

Hi "Flash2002"!
Please, let me know how the sound is when the new speakers are mounted.
Can anyone recommend a amplifier that fits in the CD-space in the topbox?

I have a 2008 plated GL 1800. Will the Polk db501 fit up front or is there modifications required?
Thanks from down under

I was told if you pack insulation (not sure what kind) behind the speakers they will sound much better. I don't know where I heard that but I do know someone that did it and it improved the sound. Uses the speakers instead of going through the helmet headset. He puts over 20,000 mile a year on his bike so he would know if it works.
It may have come from a rep of J & M at Wing Ding or one of their shows.

I´m thinking of getting a MP3 from http://www.bikemp3.com v3 and use it for playing MP3 instead my cell phone. Also to buy a amplifier to get more base.
Anyone with experience of Bikemp3 and who can recommend a amplifier that suits in the topbox in the CD-player space?
And of course, the sound is always going through the speakers and not the helmet :).

Hi.
I have an European GL1800 '08. Replaced OEM speakers (four) with J&M GL1518 and installed Sony amplifier XM-4S which fits perfectly in the CD-player space, so no lost of space in the trunk. I didn´t make any hole for ventilation and no problems with it by the moment. This amplifier has 4 channels in and 4 channels out, this way you can still use OEM fader control. Output power is 50 W RMS per channel.
Now sound is crystal clear but I miss some bass (which is normal because of the speakers size). Before installing the amp I used to set volume at level 18-20 to listen music while cruising in the highway and there was some distortion. Now 5-8 is enough and with this low output all distortion has disappeared.
This is my option. Hope this can help you.
