LUGGAGE RACK LED BRAKELIGHT

Postby flaxman » Fri Feb 18, 2011 8:47 pm

anyone manage to add a CLEAN looking LED as a brakelight?
I have a '01 1800 with ?factory? tubular style rack. NO spoiler.
I understand that "plug and play" is in the trunk lid???

Thanks in advance,
SCOTT

If you find what you are looking for your rack, contained in the link below is the connection. I have the spoiler and installed this connection (plug & play) with my spoiler light to gain the running/brake light function.

You may also want to take a look at the 2nd link which is another option for gaining the brake/running light also contained on the website.

Thanks, Steve, though I am trying not to add a spoiler, as I think it would "spoil" the look with the luggage rack... found lights for a billet style rack, not having much luck with adding one on to the trunk, There's already a handle on my trunk, and can't be sure a handle WITH brakelight would fit the same holes... search continues

Do watch out, having joined this WEB site I see a lot of copmplaints about the quality of the chrome on Kuryakyn products!! I have avoided them so far based on all the comments, everyone is entitled to their own opinion, but be aware of their issues and make an informed decision.

Here is another option Scott. Note I too have seen the posts regarding chrome quality however to date I have had none. My accessories also range in between 2 - 5 years old. As the previous poster stated its your decision.

thanks, Dragon, I have an existing handle, cannot comfirm by any method if the new one will match existing holes (or even cover them)
search continues for the solution

have been leaning toward a spoiler with brakelight!
gonna be hard to match the Illusion Red, though

If you looking at getting a spoiler, it comes painted for the year/colour. Your only problem may be as you touched upon is paint fade which you won't really know until you get the bar.

The other option which is more pricey is to get the Chrome Spoiler. In my case I picked up a 09 matching spoiler. If I had seen the Chrome one I would have selected it as it also comes with turn signals & running light.

yeah, chrome/LED is the frontrunner for now... will take much thought.

meantime, I changed all 6 run/brake lights to LED's (no amps, big light) and am waiting for strobe module for brakes.

hoping this is enough visibility for this season!

well, here it is, the FINAL outcome, video shows slow flash, is actually 20X in 1 second, lEDs stay on until release of brake. as good as I hoped.

It almost looks like you have a bad connection the way they flash :) , but they should draw other drivers attention to you braking..
