Electric problems GL1800

Post by ltcwm » Wed Mar 02, 2011 8:09 am

:D
Hello I had a problem with turn signal and radio a few days back. If the turn singnal was used the radio would turn off and a buzz was heard under the dash. The problem turned out to be caused by my riding my wing on a dirt road to my home for the past several years. The dust collected under the seat on the relays and moisture created enough of a short to foul everything up. The solution was to remove all relays(25 of them) clean, dry and lube with dielectric grease.

Interesting...I've always assumed that could happen, but haven't heard of it actually happening to someone.

Are all the relays located in the same area?

Yes all were in a plastic mounted box with all the wires entering from the bottom. One has to remove 2 screrws to lift the box and then the relays are in groups or banks which can be removed by releasing the side latches of each bank. The banks are color coded and 1 bank has 2 types of relays in the same bank. Good luck
