heated seat

Postby hondakid » Fri Jun 03, 2011 4:07 am

Hi There,

I own a 2005 model GL1800A and have recently bought a new original Honda heated seat (for the '06 model). Along with the seat I bought the heat control module and 2 control knobs and I managed to get the wiring diagram from the Honda service manual as well. However I do have a problem regarding the connection/installation of the module. The module is originally connected to the wire harness through an 18-pin connector and all wires are explained in the diagram. But of course my bike does not have the connector (being an '05 model) and the pins on the module are not numbered. So what I need is a picture and/or an accurate description on the wires (position and color) of the connector that connects the wire harness to the heat control module. I am not sure where the module is sitting on the GL1800's that are standard equipped, but looking at the parts fiche I believe it is under the seat, somewhere close to (and to the left of) the rear fender. The module is black, sits in a rubber housing and it roughly matches the size of a pack of cigarettes.

Any help would be very much appreciated!!

Cheers,

Bert - Belgium

Sorry Bert I can't help you, I have heard that there are some times intermitent issues with the heated seats,(cutting out and then not working until you do a restart) My 06 has issues and the dealers spent about 2 a days fixing it before they would let me have the bike.

Keep us in the loop with what you find

Hi Frank,

thanks for your reply, I will keep you (and the rest of this loop) posted with any progress on the installation. By the way I noticed you are from Canada? I have had 2 Canadian edition GL1500's, very happy with both. In Belgium they were very popular as they had very well equipped from the factory (compared to Europe) and the speedometer was in KM/h instead of MPH which is a requirement for the technical inspection here. My GL1800 is a European model, quite different from the US and Canadian models. I have made some changes to "upgrade" it, had it for 6 years now (43000mls) and am very pleased with it, fantastic bike!

Cheers,

Bert
