2009 cruise control

Postby Reuben » Sun Oct 25, 2009 8:35 am

My 2009 GL1800 cruise control will not engage, I turn it on and it shows cruise on but it will not set, any simple fixes before I go to dealer in the spring

Has it ever worked? You know it only works in 4th or 5th gear, and only above 30, right?

Do you have aftermarket clutch/brake levers? These have caused problems for some...you may wanna remove the levers and check to see if the sensors are gummed up in the handlebar pieces...

Rueben - On my '02, my clutch lever was the culprit (I have aftermarket chromed levers). There are two micro-switches which are held IN while not being used - when you pull the clutch lever, it releases the switches and cuts off the cruise. Fix while riding is to push the handle out but this usually works only until you hit the first bump. Take the handle off and apply a thin layer of JB Weld to the contact area for the switches - that should keep the switches engaged.
I have the same problem now with my '09 but on the brake side. Have not had a chance to "fix" it yet but if I push out on the lever, the cruise will stay engaged until I hit a bump.
Goldwing - Great carrier of Chrome and stuff!

When it warms up I will have to take her for a spin and try it.

Thanks

To engage cruise control you need to perform two actions:
- Push the cruise control button.
- Momentarily push the deacelerate button to set the current speed.
I think you forgot the second step.
Hope this can help you.
Sorry for my poor english and cheers from Spain.

Hopefully, it will still be under warranty in the Spring.
