Sometimes engagement to some gears is vague, does not feel locked

Is it always between certain gears, for example, 5th down to 4th?

it has happened twice and just one day, so cannot say "always".

Have you recently changed your oil?? If so you may have oil that's not compatible. Dola 06 Navi

Get the bike to a dealer, the 4th and 5th gear shifting forks are worn and not fully shifting into gear, if it is not under warranty you are looking at about a $1500.00 bill.

Do you have floor boards with heel shifter, maybe the shifter is causing the problem.

This might be what they refer to as "Ghostshifting". If you do a search for it ex.: Goldwing Ghostshifting or Ghostshifting Goldwng; you should be able to find a lot about it. Do you have an extended warranty or is it too late for you to get one?
