Speedometer and general

Postby dayser7 » Wed Aug 03, 2011 9:31 pm

Hey experts...my speedometer needle sticks on my 2001 1800 GW...another question I have is that my book says that plugs, and major service should be done or should have been done at 24000 miles...the dealer said 30000 so he did not do it before I bought it...when do you all do those services. Thanks a lot...

Dealer cheap do as the book says. Dealers alway try to out think or smart the manufactor. Some times it's not worth it. Honda built it ..they have years of reseach on when thing need to be checked. That dealer would loose my business.. he just want you to pay for that service next year at the tune of about $500/800 bucks... Sally

I just re read your posting.. I had the same problem with my speed meter it's not the speedmeter just remember they had a problem with the clear face.. They seem to have a problem with heat on the clear sheild and it sags hitting the needle. I purchase a new one and changed it out it's fine, It's been about four years now for me.. Found my on ebay.. I beleive it about a 30 $$$$ fix.. SALLY

I do my plugs about every 18,000 to 20,000 miles. Takes about an hour to do both sides. You can get the the original NGK plugs at Advance or Autozone or O'reilly's for about $2.00 a plug. Some guys say their fine to 50,000 polus but change them out around 16-20,000 and right away you'll feel the difference.

As far as plugs go, my buddy just did his at 25K and they looked really good, but as he had them out, he replaced them. I did not like the plugs that came in my bike so I swapped them out for the Iridium ones for the bike at about 3500. I did notice a slight difference right away, but then it may also have been my imagination. For the price of plugs, the dealer should have just done them, if you asked.

Hey thanks again the plug info...my runs good now...but then I do not like the idea of not know if they have ever been changed or not...seems like there should be some service record from the other owner...but they have not been located...thanks again.
