Reverse Adjustment?

Postby snickle » Sat Aug 20, 2011 9:06 pm

I have noticed that when I try to use my reverse it does not engage and it sounds as though the teeth are hitting at the tips of the gear. I was told by someone that there is an adjuster cable for the reverse when it is engaged. Can any body shed any light on this? How to check it? How to adjust it?

What did you do to make it work now?

Took the side cover off. Then you can see the cables right there. I wiggled both cables and could see that the bottom one was looser than the other one. Spray WD40 all over the springs to make sure of free play. Then got the bottom one that was looser and adjusted the long large locker nut on it so that I just took out enough of the looseness to make it tighter. Got back on bike and checked to make sure that it was engageing properly and hit the starter reverse and made sure that it would back up smoothly. Worked perfectly.

Well that means the actuator IS adjustable. Good to know. The manual did not say it was. The manual also did not say that the cables would stretch, but it is obvious that they can.

I don't think that they stretch that much. twice I have had to tighten my throttle cable lock ring because it would not stay tight. Each time I noticed my throttle had got a lot of play in it and I know it was not from being stretched. I fully expect more of the cables on my bike to loosen the lock rings over time.
