what year

Postby wayne ian » Tue Aug 23, 2011 9:16 pm

I just picked up from dealer 2003 standard . So the serial number says. However it is gold with ABS. GPS. and everything . I have done two title searches.. Not stolen.. CD player dated late2005. Any ideas? One dealer says it may be a factory show /tester preproduction. I checked Honda colour charts and gold was 2006 only. O ya great ride. I have a 2006 suzuki C50 with 50.000 miles. Never go back.

The 2003 came in a candy orange. Could that be what you are calling gold.?

Does your bike have the vents below the front speakers?
You say the VIN shows it as a 2003 "standard" and not stolen. The bike could be stolen and the VIN replaced from a wreaked bike that was not stolen!
Have you checked to make sure the VIN was run correctly to show it as a 2003?

If it has a GPS, it sure ain't a normal 2003. To the best of my knowledge, 2006 was the first model to have this option... If you got it from a Honda dealer, they sure as heck should know better.

Could be a bitsa (Bits of this and bits of that) someone crashed an 03, purchased bodywork & electrics from a 06 and fitted it to the 03 mechanics!! I would be giving it a wide berth, something is not right, as mentioned GPS didn't appear until 06, so you have a very weird bike which probably has a less than stellar history!! Look else where for a wing.

To late to walk away I own it. The frame is the only part that is 2003 as far as I can tell . I can't find info on engine serial numbers. Do they even tell year? On the plus side we have put 6000 km's on it and it has performed perfectly. I live in the Toronto area and this past weekend we toured the finger lakes in New York. Great ride, maybe go back in October after the leafs change.

Fingers crossed that it turns out great for you, there is no reason why it shouldn't be perfectly reliable if the work was done correctly..

If it was a Harley, I would warn you to avoid being stopped by the Po-Po, but Goldwings are never examined when the gestapo call. I would just go ahead and enjoy the heck out of that bike. You probably got a terrific deal, and if only the frame is from 03, then the bike was basically hand built. Not to many of us can claim that till we actually do it ourselves, lol.
