coolant leaking

Postby Southern Man » Mon Sep 05, 2011 11:21 am

I just noticed a small puddle under the bike today and it seems that I have a coolant leak.

The liquid is dripping from the right side head pipe just foward of the foot brake. That's roughly 3" foward of the oil dip stick.

THis is a new bike to me, 2004 model 1800 with a CSC trike kit on it. I bought it 2 months ago with 11,500 miles on it and it now has 13,250. When I checked the fluid level in it today cold it is about 3 lines low.

(1 question) any thoughts on what may be leaking in the described area?
(2 question) anyone have any photos of whats in the general area with all the covers removed?

Thanks.

Just Bought my new Goldwing GL1800CADA today here in Perth, Western Australia. Pick it up in 5 days time. This will be my 3rd Goldwing after first purchasing the original 1976 model but have not ridden since about 1982 on my Gl1000 Goldwing 1979 model which was the one that had the 3 gauges on the dummy tank.

I had a similar experience with my 1979 Wing leaking coolant but this was only evident while the engine was warming up. I bought it new and after about 2 weeks I noticed steam rising from the head pipe. Took it back to the dealer who replaced the head under warranty and said that the head was porous and the coolant was seeping out through the aluminum. They sent it back to Honda because I think they thought they might have had to do a recall. I never had any further problems after that. Of course your problem may be something totally different.
