Wing resists left turns

A friend recently dumped his wing while making a left turn into a parking area. He was going about 30 and leaned to the left, but the bike didn't cooperate and he had to lay it down. He said that it felt like it was resisting another left-hand curve about a week earlier. Does this sound like his anti-dive valve is occassionally malfuncting and locking up the left fork while turning?

It happened twice but in a parking lot, turning at low speed, and so puts the brake at the same time you fall on the side. I cross that his angle of the fork which is giving problem.

One way to find out would be to obtain one of those anti dive shim things and install it. It supposedly disables the antidive. I have no idea if the anti dive can do this, but would like to know what he finds out. The antidive shim kit can be had here:

It could also be his steering stem bearings are worn and have formed a notch at the neutral position of steering when the wheels straight.

I would check for loose wiring around the steering stem. Maybe something is caught in the fork bridge.

Right turns are harder for most people. Another way to disable the anti-dive is to do the "nickel trick". Take a nickel and drill a 1/4" hole in the center of it. Place it between the 2 halves of the anti-dive. You can even use the orginal screws to put the antidive back together. Only costs a nickel. Resulted in a much smoother ride for me. Mine was locking up but I never noticed any effect on the steering.

Further to this... I decided to purchase this kit.. It is not expensive. Cost me $20 including shipping, which is a little more expensive than a nickel, but the fit and finish is nicer. I tried the nickel first, and it worked, so I bought this shim kit. It works just as well and does not even look like it has been added. It fits perfectly, and just extends the seperation between upper and lower parts of the anti dive. It takes about three minutes of getting used to after installation, as the front end will feel a bit less solid when stomping on the rear brake. The handling in both directions though, while using the rear brake, was improved significantly. Twisties are easier to feel, and therefore easier to negotiate. Each thing I do to improve the handling of this bike make it sportier. I have already done the front forks completely - new springs, better seals, 10 wt synthetic fork oil. Next up - rear shock and preload get a new spring and a new braided steel line. Honda could have done all this, and charged an extra thousand dollars, and I would have paid it, but I guess that would have made it look like they were admitting the bikes are poorly suspended. :lol:

I'd lean a little more on stem bearing bad after so many I've changed are falling apart

Anti Dive zero chance of affecting steering in this manner.

Any of the cables leading off the handlebars sticking, or a bad stem bearing are the likeliest of causes.

Old posts are still of interest to me..I drive a 28 year old bike.Problems resolved and long ago forgotten may have information on my bike.
I don't mind resurrecting a old thread if it can resolve my issue or clarify the trouble.
I don't remember everything I've ever read on these bikes so I do resort to the search topics often.
