speedometer drops to zero

Postby dhelle » Sat Oct 15, 2011 3:03 pm

When I start out for the day,and some other intermitant times, the speedometer drops to zero, the cruise control stops working immediately, couple minutes later the FI light comes on, the turn signals stay on and do not shut off automaticlly. Maybe five ,ten ,fifteen miles down the road the speedometer jumps back up to speed and everything else comes back on line. If I stop and check FI light, it blinks one long one short. It doesn't seem to be related to moisture. It acts the same way rain or shine. Any Ideas?

Long Blink = 10, Short Blink = 1
i.e. long long long short short short = 33 check error code 33

Number of MIL blinks .Symptoms .Cause

11 Blinks • Engine operates normally
• Loose or poorly connected vehicle speed sensor connector
• Open or short circuit in vehicle speed sensor wire: • Faulty vehicle speed sensor

I have a 2008 Airbag and it has the same simptoms. What was the outcome on yours?

Kikeb suggested the FI indicator blinks one ong-one short signified bad speed sensor or speed sensor cable. I haven't tried the fix yet.

You may have a bad connection, same thing will happen if the fuse for the turn signal is burnt only it wouldn't come back If the speedo doesn't work the signal lights won't cancel. Starty with the fuse see if it is loose or corroded.
