2002 Goldwing Frame Issue??

Thinking of purchasing a 2002, I am concerned about the frame recall. Wanted to get info. such as recall info. and web sites to investigate.

The info is right here on this forum, at the very top of the page you will see manuals, click on it and it will take you to that page and if you scroll down you'll see GL1800 Service Bulletins there are 3 listed SB 14, SB 17 and SB 18. These will help you.

Maintainence schedule should be in the owners manual. Is there a manual with the bike. I use 10W30 Mobile 1 full synthetic (NON-energy concerving) and change oil and filter about every 7,000 miles. In my opinion, air filter should be changed at about 30K. Change the final drive oil every other time you change the engine oil. I have about 41K and haven't changed the plugs yet but probably will between 45 and 50K.

you can have any dealer run the vin to see if your frame has been repaired or replaced

I bought my former 2002 in late 2001. It was recalled for frame inspection, and passed with flying colors.

You can do a "home" inspection yourself, if you do some goggle searching and learn where to look. I had already done a "home" inspection before I even received the recall notice. The suspect area is under the passenger floorboards and can be seen more easily with the bike on a lift, a strong flashlight, and an inspection mirror.

Relatively few bikes actually needed rewelding.
