83 Interstate rear master cylinder

Postby bikefan » Mon Mar 19, 2012 9:25 am

Does anyone know if there is a new rear master cylinder available for an 83 Interstate? I have tried rebuilding one that was on the bike and another off a parts bike but both wound up leaking-(too pitted). I dont think honda makes these anymore. Any help would be appreciated.

It shows as NA… not available. You're doing what is going to become habit…. searching for a 'good' used unit that doesn't have
any or little pitting. Good luck…. remember it's a 29 year old motorcycle.

I did find one yesterday that the cylinder looks pretty good- I'm giving it a good cleaning right now and keeping my fingers crossed ! After seeing a used one sell on Ebay for $180 I'd say say its going to be a challenge finding them.

If you find one with light pitting … it can be honed out. Most decent bike shops will have a hone to fit. But make sure to instruct them that you only want 1 'in and out' hone. Nothing extreme. It's soft material and will enlarge easily if the hone is overdone.

I was thinking the same thing but I was worried that the rebuild kit wouldnt be " tight" enough. The one I'm cleaning up now has no pitting ( in the cylinder) that I can see.
