WTB NEEDED ANOTHER WING(REPLACEMENT THERAPY)

Postby newday777 » Mon Mar 25, 2013 3:56 am

I am needing a replacement for my totalled White 1999 SE. If anyone knows of a good 99-2000 White SE that isn't advertised somewhere let me know, I'm starting to heal slowly but am chomping at the bit to get back in the saddle. (yes I have been scouring the ads on the forums, and Craigslist) (all craigslist ad searches)
Thanks. God Bless,
Stu

I also need a left side Wing Warmer (goes on radiator exhaust vent like the right side showing in my avatar) I have my right side one still but the left was destroyed in the crash.

Thanks
I should have said also that both her insurance and mine are saying my bike was only worth $6100 if they take it and $5200 if I keep it. So I'm limited.

Found 2, blue and red up here. There was a white one for sale just a couple months ago on craigslist, but not on there anymore. Will keep eyes open (I love spending other people's $$, lol)

Hmmm, lookie lookie....a white one, but on the other side of the states, but could ship it back out. It has 30k miles, so maybe a little more than what you want to spend due to what you are getting from insurance.

If you go to "Cycletrader.com" you can search by year, there are 3-4 white ones, but they are at about the same price as the one above.

That's out of the budget as the Insurance Co won't pay that much.

I hope that you are going to get some pain and suffering money. That might make up the difference from what they will pay. Every time someone else hit my bikes, I always ended up with something at least as good and sometimes better.

I agree, You should get a minimum of 6-10K in your pocket for your P&S. If they are not offering you that above and beyond all medical bills and bike, GET A LAWYER asap.It could be a lot more based on your condition.

Well, as usual, I got the cart before the horse and got the bike already....But still waiting for my pain/suffering settlement. My lawyer won't accept any of their penny anty offers and will most likely go to trial. They find so many ways to stretch it out hoping you will give in and say, "just give me the money" (what they offer). I told the lawyer, I'll wait until hell freezes over if necessary to get a proper settlement.

Our problem is that not enough of us go to court. We always figure that the lawyer will get it all. Well if we have the right deal with the lawyer, it is on a percentage basis, and if he gets lots, he has to get lots for us too. Yeah, I know it is tough to wait it out, because insurance companies are experts at this, and I have failed to get a lawyer in the past (way in the past - about 1986) but I threatened a lawyer, and they gave me what I wanted. I was not hurt very bad - just a bruised foot, and I did not want much - just replacement for a brand new bike I had only had three weeks, which had only 400 miles on. They wanted to just repair it, and I said I wanted new, just like the woman wrecked. I got new. That's all I got, and it is all I needed on that one. The next one, I got a lawyer. If I ever have the chance again, I will get a lawyer again. I don't care what they offer - my very first action will be the lawyer. I learned my lesson already. AND, the lawyer will be an expert in this form of litigation, and the insurance company will know it.

Yep, I learned the hard way also....I also learned to stay away from the lawyers that are all over the TV.....they cut deals with the insurance companies all day long, They don't do anything for you except take 30-35% of your money....They are in the business of volume...In fact it is almost like hiring the lawyer from the insurance company....Find a good one that does injury law and DOES NOT ADVERTISE on TV other than an occasional short ad, letting you know they exist. When they have half dozen people telling you how they got 100k and the lawyer keeps telling you they are meaner than a junkyard dog....You can bet they basicly work for the insurance company. Their job, keep you from getting a real lawyer who is fighting for you. Just my 2 cents from experience anyway.

Forgot to add, this is from someone who hates lawyers even more than I hate my x-wives and I sometimes dream of ways to torture them worse than they tortured me. So it is not like I am pushing lawyers because I think they are great people. And if there are any lawyers on this forum, I realize that there is always that 1% that is actually a good person so if the shoe fits wear it, otherwise disregard my comments please.

I worked for a company for many years that sold a specific product to law firms, so I spent a lot of time talking to lawyers. And if I learned one thing, it is NEVER HIRE A LAWYER WHO ADVERTISES. Ever. Good lawyers don't need to advertise.

The lawyer I'm in contact with is a referral from a friend who has had to use him on two occasions after law tigers failed to produce anything on the two accidents he had. I just check the CA Bar association to see if he has any disciplinary charges against him and there are none and I don't know if he advertises as I don't watch TV usually, though I did watch some this past weekend while visiting my son in Vegas for Easter(there are a bunch advertising there though!).

Lawyers are more apt to sell you out in the larger cases. Something like this you just need to find someone that can and will do the work. Good luck!

I like the white for visibility reasons. I know you are still in what to do mode but here is a decent looking one over my way. If you find one out this way I would be willing to help with the logistics. It might even be a good reason to take a ride. ;) I see the trim missing on the left marker light so it may not be as perfect as the owner describes.

Here are a couple more in mine....sorry for not posting more, my laptop hard drive died on Friday, so operating on a really old laptop with a cracked screen....yes, I am using an old CRT screen attached, lol.

Like Peppi, I can coordinate, you would have to fly in to Portland, and I can go look at bike and store in my garage (wife would get a goofy look). We have hotels near by or you can rent a little cabin on the lake to stay at ;)

Have you found your bike yet? Let us know so we stop shopping with your $$

http://portland.craigslist.org/wsc/mcy/3737490811.html A little expensive, $6.7k with 70k miles, but look at it, maybe talk them down. It is white.

http://portland.craigslist.org/clc/mcy/3733343670.html A '97, More in your range, 91k miles, looks clean...and black.

http://portland.craigslist.org/clc/mcy/3739565046.html an '89, but low mileage....only 34k, $5.9k.

http://portland.craigslist.org/yam/mcd/3716799761.html an '88 beige (we can always have more beige bikes around) at one of the cycle dealers in Salem, OR...and in your price range.

Well as an update, I'm healing up, most of the gash is sealed and very little leakage now, ankle is still tender and have to be careful still where I step, almost went sideways on it last night and it let me know real fast that it ain't healed up!
I will be getting a bit more in the settlement, so might be going to upgrade to an 1800, have my eye and commitment on one in FL. With the price most of the late 1500s are asking for, a bit more that I now will be getting I'll get a low mileage 1800 with lots of upgrades like suspension and other stuff, well, a little more than a bit more $ to upgrade but a well set up bike, good for the twisties I like.

I might sell my matching Escapade(99 White SE) for the right offer. But then I may use it as is, don't want to paint it.
Also will be parting the good stuff off my 99SE. Motor is spoken for and the trunk spoiler light.

Thanks all for your inputs.

How you liking that new wing? I love mine. Timing bad but I do have a nice wing that I am sure you would have loved. I miss the storage and duct work from the 1500. I love the engine and handling of the 1800.

Yes the 1800 is great. I bought one in June in northern MA, saw my family in NH for 3 weeks, rode to WI to see my son and grandsons for 3 weeks, then rode the northern route to Washington and down the coast, maybe 4 days added up total on slabs, the rest was twisties and 2 lanes of 11,000miles from when I bought it and 10 weeks away.
