Only the Standard GL1100 and the Interstate models use a tach cable in 1983. The 1983A Aspencade doesn't use a tach cable as it has an electronic tach.
If your tach isn't working you have another problem than needing a tach cable.

Yup, you're right, I saw "1100" and answered too quickly. :) You're correct, the 83 Aspencade does not have a tach cable.

I posted it for the OP more than you Bro! Hopefully he'll respond and not leave this hanging, maybe he doesn't have an Aspencade, maybe a conglomeration of parts on a standard or interstate.

Ok here is the deal I purchased this bike in boxes. So I may not know what I am doing but having a lot of fun, but the tack on this bike is cable driven and a broken one at that. I am sure it is an 83 model.

No problem. The above cable should be the right one then.
Look at the frame plate on the steering neck, in the lower right corner will be the model it is, gl1100 (STD), gl1100I (interstate), GL1100S (Aspencades) .

GL1100S ?
My 82 Aspy ID Plate indicates it to be a "GL1100A". I believe my 83 was a "GL1100A" as well.
At any rate, if it is an Aspencade, the instrument cluster has been changed.

Changed to something other then an electronic instrument cluster, i.e., an Interstate cluster, or a Standard cluster. The point being, if the ID tag is identifying the bike as an '83 GL1100A (Aspencade), and the tach in the instrument cluster requires a cable, then The instrument cluster has most likely been changed to one of the other models noted above.

Or from another bike altogether. That's why it's important to include all necessary info in these posts, be it the OP or you putting in a short input. You didn't make it clear if you were posting on your bike or the OP bike. As to the OP he could have gotten the Aspencades bags and all painted parts thinking he had an Aspencade, when it may have been a standard (gl1100) or an interstate with analog gauges.

I understand, my original post was to clarify the Model designation on the head tube.
I was trying to keep from confusing the OP.
Your post indicated the ID plate Aspencade designator to be "GL1100S". I was just indicating I had never seen an Aspencade designated as such.
All of the "82 and "83 GL1100 Aspencades I have ever seen were designated as "GL1100A"
Just attempting to keep the OP from looking at his head tube ID Plate and expecting to see the wrong designation.

I just went back and reread my posts, so I did. I hit the "S" instead of "A" using my little phone key pad and didn't proof read my post. Sorry for the confusion.
Merry Christmas

Thanks to all that has replied. Sorry it has taken me so long to get back, but ID plate had been removed for painting. The mystery is over and it is "GL1100A" 1982. So it looks as if I had the year wrong but the type right. Will try to post pics later. Merry Christmas to all!!!!
