I would be all over this, but wrong side of the country for me. Good luck with the sale. These bikes were (and are) undervalued and getting harder to find in good condition.

had an '81 silverwing GL500i interstate full dress. it was a nice bike, very quick and strong running, but i outgrew it and traded it for an '83 goldwing GL1100A aspencade. what a difference in weight and power, and yes, those old silverwings ARE undervalued.

Not to hi-jack this thread, I got hold of a 1983 GL650I with the single seat configuration and only a couple of things are missing that are small and easy to find.

hey trike lady:

i know about these old s/w's, some parts you'll be able to find, but brace yourself, THEY AINT CHEAP! ! ! parts for those olde s/w's, especially the 650's are VERY expensive, trust me, i know. and finding someone that knows how to work on them is even harder. your best bet, if you intend on working on it yourself is getting a service and repair manual for it. believe me, it'll come in very handy. i prefer using a Chilton or Haynes manual as apposed to the clymer manual, but that's just my personal preference.

This is it.

I'm am going to get a Honda Factory Service Manual. It runs well despite a broken choke cable and it could use a fluid change, it will get basically the same going over as a Goldwing. Some of the stuff needed is identical to the GL1100 Interstate. I had been given a type 2 sounds system minus control panel from an individual.
For some reason these bikes are like the PC800 (Pacific Coast).

hey trike lady, as are the Pacific coast bikes, these old s/w's are in a class by themselves. believe it or not, these old s/w's are the first motorcycles to use a "hemi" motor on them. they share the same motor as the CX500C, and they are practically bullet proof if taken care of properly. in the 3 years i had my s/w 500i, i put over 30,000 miles on it without any major engine repairs except for normal servicing. 8 oil changes, 3 sets of tires, spark plugs, a few air filters and some other "creature comfort add on's. IE: custom driver floorboards taken from an '84 gl1200, cigarette lighter, custom stereo and speakers, custom trailer hitch and few other things. it was a good bike, but not very stable out on the interstate highways. that was my main concern as i do a lot of interstate riding. you get behind an 18 wheeler and the bike wants to "wander" in the lane your in. i even took it from here in Tennessee down to the Florida keys and back home once and didn't even use a half qt of oil for the entire trip which was over 2500 miles by the time i got home. i traded it for the bike i currently have now, and im very happy with it being 250lbs heaver and a 4 cyl verses a 2cyl. much more stable on the highways and a lot more power also.
