Need 1988 GL1500 Starter Motor Brushes

Postby dvcruz » Thu Jan 08, 2015 12:49 am

Hello to all.
Does anyone know where I can get a set of 1988-1989 starter motor brushes? Everywhere I have looked (and I've been looking for weeks now) it is a DISCONTINUED item. The brushes are different from '90 and newer.
The official part name is Brush, Terminal p/n 31201-MN5-008.
I really need a set so if anyone can tell me where I can purchase them, I would be very grateful.
Thank you.

Hi and thanks for your quick response.
I had already tried Ricks but unfortunately, they couldn't help. The 88-89 motors were made by two companies, Mitsuba and Nippon Denso, and Ricks only has the Mitsuba (four separate brushes) style. I need the other type which has two pairs of 2 brushes each.

Anyone else out there that can help?

Just to update...couldn't find the brushes we needed, so we ended up using the 4 brush kit from Rick's to replace the worn brushes.
New question:
If you put a 1500 starter on a table in front of you with the splined shaft end pointing away from you and applied power, which way would the shaft spin? Please don't guess or try to figure it out logically. I'm hoping someone has a starter sitting around somewhere that they can actually try this and get back to me.
Thank you.
