Looking for Web site

Postby NewOwner69 » Tue Jul 28, 2009 5:18 pm

Hi all New to site and 1st post

I just got a 81 1100 and will be restoring it to its former glory. I have restored my 88 Chevy truck now I'm going to try my hand on this bike. I'm looking for a web site that is similar to this site latemodlerestoration.com. They where helpful in finding the "parts" that NO ONE had; small bolts nuts you know the really hard stuff. ANY information is help full.

Thanks

I would look on ebay. You regularly find breakers that sell boxes of nuts, bolts and other bizare left over parts after they have dismantled Goldwings. I bought a 12lb box of hardware not long ago for my 81' 1100i and have been regularly fishing parts out of the box that are made from that precious metal known as "UNOBTAINIUM"

Try: http://www.cyclepsycho.com/

They are located in Eugene, Or and have a supply of Goldwing parts. They are listed under superbikes.
here.

They will also refurbish Goldwing gas tanks.

One place I have checked out is Saber Cycle, but i recomend caution due to the mixed reviews I have gotten from my
local bike shop " Cresent Moon Cycle's ". They specialize in older wing's and have said that this company is sometimes VERY slow to ship

Check out Saber Cycles Suck on the web and make your own decision before buying from them

On the other hand they do offer the largest selection of stuff for the 11 & 1200s i have found yet.

I would be very cautious of Saber Cycle. While lots of people have no problem with them, there are very many that do. They have great prices on Chinese reproductions of original parts - some parts are fine, some parts, well, not so fine. I've heard that their chromed repro parts tend to flake the chrome off within a few months, and one universal complaint that seems to pop up everywhere is that their Chinese water pumps fail within a few months of installation. I've also heard that their master cylinder rebuild kits universally include pistons that are too large and don't fit in the cylinder bore.

If you can suffer through their abominable customer service, and the part is not critical to the operation of your bike, then I would first read through Saber Cycle Sucks and then make your own decision.

I bought 4 carb rebuild kits (not OEM) from them and two of the float bowl gaskets stretched and had to be replaced. Not their problem but cheap material. The products were shipped and I had them within a week.

Try this site. You have to submit a request for your particular parts and they can be little slow getting back to you (understandably) but they should have most of what you need.

Good luck!

I second that one - they are a great site, with lots of parts that are hard to find, and cheaper than you'll find anywhere else.
