Kuryakyn Arm Rest

Postby hawkinwe » Sat Jul 11, 2015 10:52 am

My son broke the mounting bracket for my left passenger armrest on my 2006 GL1800 and I need to find a replacement. I contacted Kuryakyn and they won't sell me the bracket, they want to sell the entire left armrest assembly. Anybody know where I can pick up the bracket? The armrests are Kuryakyn model 8991. Here's a picture of the broken bracket.

that's gonna be a hard item to find all by itself. is there any chance you can get it welded back together by a welding shop?

Thanks for the reply. I asked a buddy of mine who is a welder already and he said that it wouldn't weld too well since it's a pot metal casting. Good idea though.

I think I'd be looking for a home-machinist to fabricate a new one. It wouldn't be that hard (I've made more complex pieces) - chroming it, though, might be expensive...

Mh, that's not a bad idea, and from the looks of it, it should be pretty easy to make. chroming it, from what i know of, there a shop not too far from me that does chrome plating, but its $40.00 an inch.

I suppose the other option would be to make it out of stainless & polish it - still not hard to do, and probably cheaper than chrome...

'mornin Mh:

that's not a bad idea either, but hey hawkinwe, just a thought here, ask your buddy if it could be braised using a braising rod rather than welding it since its pot metal.

Thanks again for the feedback. I'll check on those ideas. I have a neighbor that is a machinist so I'll see what he thinks.
